Japanese app developers oyatsukai.com have taken the old Sega game Outrun and given it a makeover for the iPad games. It is called Final Freeway. This is a universal app available on iPhone and iPod Touch as well as for your iPad, and at only a dollar it offers great racing gameplay.
It maintains its retro style but has benefited from a graphics facelift. As a cheaper racing app, it doesn't hold the pizzazz of its more expensive competitors, but if you want a decent functional racing game, this could be the one to go for.
As a cheap racing app, Final Freeway has a few limitations and a couple of annoyances. You are limited to the three soundtracks on offer, or no sound. Unlike other racing games you can’t drive to your favorite iTunes music. Although it keeps your high scores there is no facility to race other drivers via Bluetooth or over the internet, and there’s no multiplayer leader-board. You have no choice of car, with your vehicle available in any color as long as it’s red.

For cheap and cheerful racing, Final Freeway is a decent game, nicely finished with smooth animation and responsive controls. It doesn't offer the glitz of the more expensive racing games, but if all you want is a quick thrill. Final Freeway is definitely the game to go for. Final Freeway is available for $0.99 from iTunes.
